Melbourne Tabla School Concert 2019

Join us for the 2019 Melbourne Tabla School in the beautiful Oratory at the arts precinct in the Abbotsford Convent. With group performances by Melbourne Tabla School students and Sam Evans that present traditional repertoire that is at times fast and exciting, other times slow and moody and often groovy and funky. Accompanied by sitar, subahar and bansuri, this concert celebrates the wealth of talent among the students at the Melbourne Tabla School. Join us for a Sunday afternoon of tabla.

NAAD: Sitar, Vocal and Tabla Workshops

Bringing tabla, sitar and vocal students together - Sam Evans and Sarita McHarg will present a series of workshops for sitar, vocal and tabla students that will focus on playing together and getting to know other students of Indian music in Melbourne.

Melbourne Tabla School Concert 2016

Introducing the Melbourne Tabla School concert 2016 with tabla player Sam Evans and students of the Melbourne Tabla School. The concert presents Melbourne Tabla School students playing the intricate rhythms and detailed compositions from the North Indian drumming tradition of the tabla in unison. Accompanied by Denis Phelen on sitar, the tabla players perform in groups of various sizes in a diverse presentation of styles, speeds, colours and moods. With a vast compositional repertoire that presents drumming music as a detailed and beautiful language, the tabla is one of the world’s most incredible drumming traditions. Join us for this year show!

UNISON - Melbourne Tabla School Concert 2015

UNISON is the 2015 concert from Melbourne Tabla player Sam Evans and students of the Melbourne Tabla School. The concert presents thirty tabla players playing the intricate rhythms and detailed compositions from the North Indian drumming tradition of the tabla in unison. Accompanied by sitar, slide guitar and electric guitar, thirty tabla players perform in groups of various sizes in a diverse presentation of styles, speeds, colours and moods. With a vast compositional repertoire that presents drumming music as a detailed and beautiful language, the tabla is one of the world’s most incredible drumming traditions.

The concert will features a performance by students of the Melbourne Tabla School, featuring up to 30 of Melbourne’s finest up and coming tabla players. Tabla students ranging from beginners to advanced will be performing intricate traditional compositions in small groups in unison with sitar accompaniment. With solo sections, spoken rhythms and complex cycles the music is a celebration of the rising interest and talent in tabla playing in Melbourne.

Melbourne Tabla School @ The State Schools Spectacular

The State Schools Spectacular is the largest school performance event in Victoria with over 2500 students performing under one roof in front of 10,000 people. The Spectacular has never before had a performance of Indian music - The Melbourne Tabla School's tabla ensemble will be the first. The concert is open to the public and will be televised on Channel 7 to a national audience.

Visiting International Artist 2013 - Pandit Debasis Chakroborty
Workshop and Concert - Saturday 23rd March 2013

A workshop for tabla players in the art of accompaniment by one of India’s most renowned slide guitarists accompanied on sitar by Professor Lovely Sharma (India) and Tabla player Sam Evans. The workshop will be followed by a concert for all music lovers.

The Art of Accompaniment - Sitar and Tabla Workshop

Join us for an in-depth exploration of the art of tabla accompaniment and live performance by International Sitar Maestro Samuel J Dass. Samuel J Dass a multi-award winning performer that has reached the pinnacle of the classical and contemporary Indian music arena. He is a winner of 7 categories at the performing arts championships in 2010. He is a disciple of sitar master Pandit Shahid Parvez. He will be joined by Melbourne Tabla School teacher Sam Evans.
