LESSONS AT THE MELBOURNE TABLA SCHOOL
Tabla lessons at the Melbourne Tabla School are conducted in a fun and engaging environment to help students learn the tabla efficiently and enjoyably. The individually designed lessons and classes cater for serious tabla players as well as people who are interested in just having some fun or a looking for hobby.
Lessons are designed to assist students in learning to play the music they are most interested in - Indian classical music, solo tabla repertoire, devotional music, improvisation, contemporary intercultural music, South Asian music and more. In learning the instrument, all tabla students learn the spoken rhythms of the tabla known as tabla bols. School-aged students now have the opportunity to play tabla as part of their final V.C.E. high school exams in the Melbourne Tabla School V.C.E. Program. |
The lessons develop the correct technique and tone quality to assist students in creating their own music and their own improvisations as tabla players while maintaining the sublime tradition of Indian tabla. Incorporating aspects of contemporary education, the lessons are based on the traditional training Sam received in the many years he spent living in India.
Research has shown that education that is fun and engaging is also efficient. Students that enjoy the process of learning as well as the outcome learn quicker and maintain the skills longer. So it's not just that its fun to teach and learn in this way, it's actually also the quickest way to learn. |
